Ver ArtistaRaúll Moncada

Raúl Moncada was born in the city of Camaguey, in Southern Cuba, in 1955. He studied at the Escuela de Artes Plasticas Jose Joaquin Tejada in Santiago de Cuba, and later at the Instituto Pedagógico Enrique Jose Varona in the city of Havana. Moncada delved into synthetic cubism at a young age, but evolved his art works into more linear, diamond cut shapes with audacious boundaries and unyielding colors that exemplify and extract the dimensional fields of an objects plane. The assimilation of these techniques provide a gateway for viewers to feel as if they have entered a dream like world with an opaque futuristic art form that displays’ Cuba’s radiant culture and lifestyle. Throughout his 30 year career, Moncada has had a variety of personal and collective exhibitions in his native Cuba where he has also participated in several collective exhibitions.

Among his prizes, he got First Place in Bayamo, Cuba in 1975. In 1977 he got First and Second Place during the Cultural Week Exhibition in Manzanillo, Cuba. In 1996, he won first prize for painting at the Taller de Creación, at the Casa Cultura Marianao in Havana. In 1995, he won first prize for engraving at the Encuentro de Artistas, at the Casa Cultura Marianao in Havana.

Moncada has participated in international exhibitions in Bratislava, Slovakia in 1987. He also participated in Casa de la Cultura Exhibition in Saint Boi, Spain in 1990. In 1993 he was special guest artist of the Casa Cultural Jesus Romero Flores in Mexico City. The Casa de la Cultura de Congos in Galicia invited him to expose his work in 1994. In 2007 Moncada was selected by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs of Cuba to be promoted in the United States by Artists of the Americas. He has exhibited in the USA at the Headquarters of 12 Fortune 500 Corps: Avon, Pfizer, News Corp, CBS, MasterCard, Pepsi Bottling, ITT, NASDAQ, IBM, AMEX, UBS, RPW Group.
