Gonzalo Fonseca

Gonzalo Fonseca was born in Montevideo, Uruguay in 1922. Fonseca moved to the United States in 1958. Originally he studied architecture at the Universidad de la República Oriental de Uruguay. In 1942 Fonseca befriended Joaquín Torres-García, his teacher from 1942-1949. After leaving Uruguay in 1950, Fonseca traveled throughout the Middle East and resided in Paris from 1952 until 1957. His work is represented in the collections of the Brooklyn Museum, the Blanton Museum of Art at the University of Texas at Austin, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Caracas.
