In 1998 the Dominican Association of Art Critics (ADCA) recognized the revelation of his first solo exhibition, awarding him accordingly, in that same year he obtained first prize in the regional painting contest in Mexico, first prize in the painting contest of the Ministry of Civil Aviation of the Dominican Republic, first prize in the Casa de Teatro painting contest, all in 1998. "Con los pies Descalzos" is the title of the exhibition recognized by the ADCA and held by José Morillo at Atelier Gazcue, ( 1997) with a catalog presentation by Sara Herman, a critic that refers to the painter's "enchanted paths". She writes: When the term naive is mentioned, as it happens more often when someone confronts the work of Morillo, as by spring we think of the customs officer Rosseau and Philomé Obin.
