about this event

The exhibition, curated by the specialist Sergio Alberto Baur, display more than 200 paintings, drawings, prints and objects - among documents, manuscripts, prints and photographs - of the Argentine plastic artist Norah Borges (1901-1998). The exhibition, which analyzes all her artistic life through works from different eras, from 28 public and private collections, intends to link the worlds that Borges lived since his training period, and his outstanding work as an illustrator of the Spanish avant-garde and Argentina. Personal and bibliographic documentation will also be displayed that place it on the stage of the 1920s and 1930s. Norah Borges - sister of the famous writer Jorge Luis Borges, and wife of the Spanish critic and poet Guillermo de Torre - is a rare exception in the history of Argentine art, because her presence in the boom decades of international avant-garde allowed her accompany personalities of the relevance of Juan Ramón Jiménez, Federico García Lorca, Gabriela Mistral, and the young poets of renewal of Spain and Argentina, and establish a plastic dialogue with the artistic movements of those years. Her personal artistic development crosses the forms of modernity with her own language. Throughout the twentieth century, in contact with the literary life of her time, she illustrated the first books of writers such as Borges, Victoria and Silvina Ocampo, Julio Cortázar, Adolfo Bioy Casares, Eduardo Mallea, Ricardo Molinari, Concha Méndez Cuesta, Carmen Conde, Rafael Alberti, and Chileans Luis Enrique Délano and Humberto Díaz Casanueva. She also made illustrations for the Spanish avant-garde magazines "Grecia", "Ultra" and "Baleares", and was an outstanding contributor to the Argentine publications "Prisma", "Proa", "Martín Fierro" and "Evaluations", among others.
