Ver Galería Galería Helga de Alvear

Profile Information
Galería Helga de Alvear continues the legacy of interest in avant-garde languages begun by the Galería Juan Mordó (1964-1995), focusing in recent years on photography, video, and installations, as well as other languages used by conceptual and minimalist artists.

Since 1995, it has been located in a 900-m2 space near the Reina Sofia National Museum Art Centre, in Madrid. The two rooms on the ground floor show work by international figures (such as Dan Flavin, Kazuo Katase, Gordon Matta-Clark, and Thomas Ruff) and Spanish artists (including Pep Agut, José Maldonado, Mabel Palacin, and Adolfo Schlosser). The upper floor houses Estudio Helga de Alvear, whose programming features curated exhibitions, site-specific projects, and other works whose singular characteristics make them ideal for this space.

Helga de Alvear combines her work as the director of an art gallery with her passion for collecting, which has led her to create her own collection -- holdings that she often lends to exhibitions around the world, and which has been the subject of three special shows in the last four years.
