Profile Information
The University of South Australia’s new, Anne & Gordon Samstag Museum of Art, celebrated its opening on 11 October 2007 with the exhibition Wonderful World, a project expressing the scope and sophistication of Australian contemporary art practice, and demonstrating, also, the cultural ambition of the Samstag Museum of Art

Formerly the UniSA Art Museum, the Samstag Museum of Art has been named in honour of two distinguished benefactors to Australian culture, whose remarkable bequest is administered through the University of South Australia.

Designed by John Wardle Architects in association with Hassell, the Samstag Museum features three substantial and elegant exhibition galleries over two levels: it is a facility that communicates architectural distinction.

Located near Adelaide's other premier cultural institutions on North Terrace, at the UniSA's City West campus, the Samstag Museum of Art aims to stimulate, challenge and engage its audiences with a program of diverse and innovative exhibitions, publications and associated public activities.

The Samstag Museum of Art is also responsible for the development, management and display of the UniSA Art Collection.

It is one of a national group of university art museums and galleries, and is a member of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) and its affiliated professional committees. The Samstag Museum of Art is part of the UniSA’s Division of Education, Arts and Social Sciences and a Samstag Museum Board has been established to oversee development of the Museum and its programs.
